

Specify a format for the disk and give it a name, then click Erase to begin wiping your hard drive. Once Disk Utility is open, select the disk or partition that you want to erase and click Erase. If you are booting from the Recovery Disk, you can also select it from the list. To wipe your entire hard drive on a Mac, you first need to open the Disk Utility application, which can be found in the Utility Folder in the Applications folder. Finally, once you are finished with this process, make sure to pair any paired Bluetooth devices with another computer or device so they can be used agin in the future. You should also sign out of iCloud, iTunes, and iMessage before recycling the computer. This will erase all of the data on your iMac and restore it to factory settings. Select “Erase All Content and Settings” and enter your administrator password when prompted. Once you have backed up your files, go to System Preferences and select the “Reset” option. You can transfer these files to an external hard drive, or upload them to the cloud. To wipe your old iMac before recycling, start by backing up any important files you may want to keep.
